This follows the news of the American automaker going in for its IPO where its long-standing Chinese ally could pick up a stake in the process.

It is difficult but not impossible. More than 1.10 lakh auto rickshaw drivers in the city are putting their hundred per cent to fetch between Rs10,000 — 12,000 every month. In this business, the margin is much higher than the actual cost of fuel consumption. And so, many rickshaw drivers have left their fixed monthly salary job and have entered into the business of auto rickshaw driving.
The economics of auto rickshaw driving is very different. Depending on the average of an auto rickshaw, presently, with the cost of CNG at Rs32.67 per kg, auto rickshaw drivers are able to cover 1.25km at a cost ranging between Re 1—Rs1.75.
Whereas, as per the state government's price chart, they are fetching Rs9 per 1.25 km, so, the margin jumps to almost eight times. But it is not that easy. Drivers are also paying installments against the loan taken to purchase an auto rickshaw, which comes at a cost of around Rs 1.25 lakh or more.
Mumbai to carry a photo ID-bearing their names, mobile numbers, residential address and a recent photograph-and paste a copy of it inside the vehicle so that it is visible to passengers.
The decision was taken at a meeting of RTOs held at the transport commissioner's office in Bandra (E) on Friday. Transport commissioner Dilip Jadhav told TOI, "I have decided that there should be some kind of driver identification which will help passengers note down his name, number and other details in case of rude behaviour, excess fare or refusal to ply. Passengers can provide these details to us when they register complaints on our toll-free helpline (1800-22-0110).'' He said drivers will be instructed to paste a photocopy of the ID behind the front seat of the vehicle or on the dashboard of the taxi/front panel of the auto. "We have begun the process of informing drivers outside railway stations to get their IDs prepared and stamped by an RTO,'' Jadhav said. The RTO will also contact taxi and auto unions so the message is conveyed to all drivers and they get their IDs done within a month.
The course will begin from September and auto/taxi drivers will be trained in batches. The course will be compulsory for those applying for fresh licence/badges.
MYSORE: The transport authorities played it smart and safe when they revised the fares of autorickshaws in Mysore. The new fares came into force on Friday without much fuss unlike in Bangalore.
The minimum fare has been revised from Rs 14 to Rs 15 and for additional one kilometer the rate is Rs 9 from the previous Rs 7. Playing safe after auto drivers' resistance for revision exercise in Bangalore, the RTO officials here have changed the minimum distance traveled to collect the minimum fare. While it was 2 km earlier, now it stands at 1.7 km. Simply put, the hike is moderate.
There is another change which will help both commuters and drivers: The meter will jump every one rupee against 50 paise earlier.
NEWDELHI: Prolonged absence of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee from herheadquarters continues to draw criticism, particularly after a spate of trainaccidents in recent months and apparent lack of ability of her deputies tohandle the situation.
"The railway ministry is not an aeroplane thatyou put in an auto pilot mode and go off to snooze," said Ram Vilas Paswan, whowas himself a railway minister in the past, upset over the state of affairs atRail Bhavan here, which he once lorded over.
"Mamata Banerjee mustset her priorities and decide whether she wants to be a minister or further herpolitical career in her home state," Paswan said, referring to her constantpresence in West Bengal, which goes for assembly elections soon.
