Mercede-Benz Shows Forward-Thinking F800 Style Research Vehicle - Winding Road Magazine (blog)
Mercedes-Benz has shown us a glimpse of the possible future of it’s automobiles with the F800 Style research vehicle. The five-seater is meant to showcase design language as well as technology, and can use either plug-in hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell drive systems.

The plug-in version would have an all-electric range of 18 miles, while the hydrogen version would have a range of 375 miles. The hybrid drive makes a total of 409 horsepower, and can reach 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds. The cleaner fuel cell version make 136 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, but only emits water vapor.

Also, the F800 Style is spacious and comfortable. At 15.5 feet long, it seats five, and features brand new interactive technology in its camera touchscreen interface.

Mercedes-Benz' F800 Style research vehicle is showing the future of premium automobiles from a new perspective, as the five-seat premium sedan combines highly efficient drive technologies with unparalleled safety and convenience features and an emotive design idiom, which interprets current Mercedes-Benz styling in line with the brand's hallmark attribute of refined performance. The F800 Style has a spacious interior full of intelligent seating, operating, and display concepts. Another unique feature of the large sedan is an all-new multi drive platform, which accommodates electric drives with fuel cells (enabling ranges of almost 375 miles) as well as the use of Plug-in Hybrids that can drive for up to 18 miles solely on electricity. Both variants of the F800 Style therefore make locally emission-free mobility possible at the level of a premium-class automobile, while at the same time being fully suited for everyday driving and providing a dynamic driving experience.

City of Newark and Environmental Protection Agency Mark One-Year Anniversary ... - The Daily Newarker
. The stimulus-funded cleanup activities will help reclaim these three sites for productive uses. The South Ward site is slated for retail use, the West Ward site for housing, and the East Ward site for light industrial purposes. Each development is part of a broader neighborhood development strategy that benefits the City and its residents at large.

“As we continue our transformation of Newark, we are making sustainability and ‘green’ policies a central part of our efforts. Thanks to our partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency and the stimulus dollars received under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we are able to remediate once-blighted brownfields in our City, and restore them to productive use, which will improve the environment and health of all of our residents. Together with our community partners we are continuing to build a stronger, safer, prouder City,” Mayor Booker said.

The grants highlighted today are part of the overall $358.3 million of Federal Stimulus funding the City of Newark and its community partners have been awarded to date. Combined, this funding is helping to provide essential services, stabilize neighborhoods, save energy, and create jobs. The use of our stimulus funds has been designed to see us through hard times and lay the foundation for the long-term vibrancy of the City.

“The brownfields reclamation projects highlighted today are examples of Newark’s commitment to deploying our resources in such a way as to realize the ideals of sustainable development -development that yields triple bottom line benefits – benefiting our economy; supporting our environmental quality and neighborhood well-being; and creating job opportunities for residents,” remarked Deputy Mayor Pryor who served as the Master of Ceremonies for the press conference.

They change lives, positively - Hindu Business Line
At the Tech4Society conference were people who, by their dress, demeanour or dialogue, would not turn a single head on the road. But they have made an incredible difference in the lives of millions, says RASHEEDA BHAGAT.

As we get into the last leg of frenzied discussions on the Union Budget, whether a double-digit growth rate is possible, and various lobbies are asking for concessions and subsidies, it was a rewarding experience to interact with some amazing social innovators and entrepreneurs at the Tech4Society conference organised by the Ashoka and The Lemelsen foundations, in Hyderabad last week.

As one rubbed shoulders with international and business leaders, including representatives from corporate giants such asMicrosoft, Google, General Electric, etc, the social entrepreneur group included quite a few people who by their dress, demeanour or dialogue wouldn't turn a single head on the road. And yet it is their passion, devotion, focus and hard work that has enabled them to reach the poorest of poor with simple innovations, changing lives. All the people I talked to don't believe in subsidies or giveaways, some of them handle at least a few million dollars… through grants, business partnerships and even carbon credits, and others tell you without batting an eyelid, and only after being probed, that their case studies have entered the curricula of Harvard, MIT and Yale. Some of them are IIT graduates; others find it difficult to pronounce ‘Boston', leave alone Massachusetts, and yet are studied by these students. Most of all, they have made an incredible difference in the lives of millions.

Mr Amitabha Sadangi, CEO of International Development Enterprises, India, has managed to reach over one million small and marginal farmers owning barely one acre of land. Hailing from a very poor and remote area in Orissa, he knew that in “eastern India there is a lot of ground water at barely 7 metres. But to lift it, you have to either hire or buy a diesel pump which was beyond the reach of these farmers.” He heard about the manually operated treadle pumps of Bangladesh, bought two and started manufacturing low-cost (Rs 1,200-1,500) treadle pumps that can pump out about 4,000-5,000 litres of water through an hour's pedalling. Men, women, children and even elders can operate it and this is sufficient to water one acre growing vegetables.

Sridhar electrifies the world with magic Bloom box - TruthDive.com (blog)
| On Wednesday Dr. K.R.Sridhar, CEO of Bloom Energy, a company in Silicon valley USA revealed the much awaited scientific invention Bloom Box: a fuel-cell. described as a power plant in a box.The invention looks like a miracle if the claims of Bloom Energy are 100 percent true.

In a press conference in USA to officially launch Bloom box, Mr.Schwarzenegger, the Governor of California rightly compared this event by saying that 160 years ago people flocked to California for the gold rush and that same spirit is alive in Bloom Energy’s Bloom Box. Colin Powel( Former secretary of state USA) Brian Kelly (Coca-Cola) Larry Page( Google) , John Donahoe( eBay) and Bill Simon( Walmart) attended the Bloom Box launch.

Dr. K.R.Sridhar already had said “We believe that we can have the same kind of impact on energy that the mobile phone had on communications. Just as cell phones circumvented landlines to proliferate telephony, Bloom Energy will enable the adoption of distributed power as a smarter, localized energy source… It will allow customers to lower their energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint, improve their energy security.” This fuel cell is expected to quench the thirst for future energy needs in homes, business houses and Industries where energy shall be produced in situ. What better dream can come true if ourselves can produce cheap and emission free electricity at our backyard replacing the conventional power we get from hydel, thermal and atomic power plants transmitted from far away lands? This invention has kindled the scientific temper all over the world unprecedented in this century. In the history of science at the time of industrial revolution many tried to invent a perpetual machine using the gravitational force. But friction always retarded or stopped the objects from continuous movement. Later turbines and internal combustion engines were invented to tap the energy. In this century more information on the matter from nano to cosmic level are openly available and the thoughts of innovators stray into less traveled areas with a thrust on Environment.

The bloom box of Sridhar contains ceramic disks coated with a special type of green and black inks. The disks are separated by metal plates. The input hydrocarbons are pumped from adjacent tank. This hydrocarbon may be of any fuel such as natural gas or diesel. The oxygen combines with fuels to trigger a chemical reaction to produce electricity. There is no combustion. Each wafer of ceramic can produce 25 watts. From a bread loaf sized unit of fuel cell one kilowatt of electricity can be produced. More units of power boxes can be putgother to build a big box to power a campus. The secret in this innovation is the methods of coating green and black dyes on the ceramic.

How Well Does the 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty Perform? - PickupTrucks.com
2011 F-Series Super Duty pickups to Florida Power and Light. How have the trucks held up since September 2009, moving equipment across the states highways and servicing hardware in the Everglades? So far, so good, said Claude Masters, FPLs vehicle acquisition and fleet manager at Ford's first drive media introduction for the new Super Duty.

How did the power utility wind up with two Super Dutys more than six months before theyre set to go on sale? FPL is recognized as a top 10 benchmark fleet by the U.S. work truck industry, Masters said. FPL is also a member of Fords fleet advisory board, which is made up of a select group of commercial customers that provide feedback to the company for current and future products.

We told Ford that the new trucks have new engines, a new transmission and diesel exhaust fluid [system for emissions], Masters said. If we heard all of that stuff on the first day of sales, wed be very skeptical [customers]. If [Ford] wanted us to, wed be the guys to test it, and well tell others what we think. Ford also could closely monitor the trucks out in the field using wireless remote data collectors that continuously send information back to Fords engineers.

Both of FPLs Super Duty pickups are equipped with Fords new in-house designed and manufactured 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V-8. One is four-wheel drive, and the other is two-wheel drive.
