MURFREESBORO — A car parked near the scene of a suspicious fire at the site of a planned new mosque drove away as an officer approached it, according to an incident report from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s office referred all questions on the investigation to the Nashville office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. ATF spokesman Eric Kehn said arson is suspected but the fire is still under investigation. The FBI is also investigating.
Members of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro got approval to build a new mosque in May. Since then opposition to the building has made international news, with some opponents saying they fear Muslims want to overthrow the U.S. government.
Twice the sign announcing the future site of the new Islamic center has been vandalized. Once it was spray-painted with the words “Not Welcome.” A second time it was torn or cut in half.

A large tow truck is expected to be one scene within the hour to get the truck off the roadside, but this is expected to take some time due to the muddy conditions. ''(The truck) is not posing a hazard and is well off the road,'' Mr Morley said.

Police and fire departments in several communities received calls Monday afternoon reporting a series of small explosions and a fire near the commuter rail line in the area where three towns come together by Silver Lake.
The Plympton Fire Department responded with several apparatus to the town line between Kingston and Plympton where Grove Street changes to Oak Street, just north of the train tracks.
According to emergency crews on the scene, a truck owned by Newcomb Tree of Kingston had caught on fire, possibly because of a leaking 100-gallon diesel tank.
The truck was engulfed in flames by the time emergency crews responded, and the multiple explosions heard by residents of the area were likely due to the diesel tank, and an oxygen tank located on the vehicle.

Methane is stored as liquefied natural gas (LNG) in a 300-litre tank and injected as a gas/air mixture into the intake manifold before being ignited in the combustion chamber by a 'pilot charge' of diesel injected into the cylinder.
Under normal conditions, between 50% and 80% of the diesel fuel is substituted by the cheaper LNG, and when the gas runs out, the FM's 13-litre engine operates as a conventional diesel. Volvo says that it will be focusing its alternative fuel effort on methane and DME.
